Discover Bancroft

Bancroft sits on the York River at the eastern edge of the Highlands, where Highways 28 and 62 meet. Known as the Mineral Capital of Canada, it hosts the Rockhound Gemboree every summer, and the hills around town are full of old mine sites where visitors still look for minerals. Eagle’s Nest lookout gives a wide view over the York River valley, and the Hastings Heritage Trail, an old rail line, carries hikers and cyclists in summer and ATVs and snowmobiles in winter.

Cottages for rent near Bancroft sit on lakes such as Baptiste, Paudash and Papineau, on smaller private lakes in the woods, and along the York River, from cozy riverside cabins to large lakeside homes for big family gatherings. Silent Lake Provincial Park is about 25 minutes south for paddling and hiking. Bancroft is about three hours from Toronto and from Ottawa.
