Minden is the first village you reach in the Haliburton Highlands, set on the Gull River with a riverwalk through the centre of town. Just upstream, the Minden Wild Water Preserve has some of the best whitewater in Ontario, used for national kayak and canoe races, while Gull Lake and its sandy beach are right at the edge of town.
The chain of lakes around Minden — Gull, Horseshoe, Twelve Mile and Boshkung — is lined with family cottages for rent, from simple cabins to big lake houses. Fall colours here are some of the earliest and brightest in southern Ontario. Minden is about 2¼ hours from Toronto by Highway 35.
