Discover Marmora & Crowe River

Marmora is a small village where Highway 7 crosses the Crowe River, between Peterborough and the Hastings Highlands. Crowe Lake lies a few kilometres upstream, northwest of the village, and the river runs on through town towards the Trent River. The area grew up around mining and logging: the huge open pit of the old Marmoraton iron mine sits on the eastern edge of town and is one of the stops on the municipality’s Miners’ Loop heritage tour.

Cottages for rent around Marmora are on Crowe Lake, along the Crowe River and on smaller lakes such as Cordova and Belmont — good spots for paddling, swimming and fishing away from the busier Kawartha lakes. Peterborough is under an hour west and Belleville about 45 minutes south. Marmora is about 2½ hours from Toronto and from Ottawa. For what is on locally, see the Municipality of Marmora and Lake website (marmoraandlake.ca).
