CottagesCottages for large groups
Room for the whole family, or three families at once. Cottages and chalets that sleep ten or more, rented directly from their owners with no booking fees.
Before you book a cottage for a big group
- The number of guests in a listing is the owner’s maximum, children and babies included. Count everyone who sleeps over, and ask before bringing day visitors: a septic system is sized for a set number of people.
- Ask for the bed layout room by room: “sleeps 12” can mean six bedrooms or two bedrooms and a lot of sofa beds. Check the number of bathrooms too.
- Ask how many cars fit in the driveway, and in winter whether all of it is ploughed. Rural roads often have no street parking.
- Tell the owner what the stay is: a family reunion, a birthday, a friends’ weekend. Many cottages don’t allow parties or events, and townships have noise bylaws, often with quiet hours at night.
- One person signs the agreement and pays the owner. Agree inside the group beforehand who pays what, and who is responsible for the damage deposit.
- Plan the kitchen: ask about the size of the fridge, the number of plates and chairs, and whether there is a second fridge or a barbecue big enough for everyone.
