Parry Sound is the main town on eastern Georgian Bay, a deep natural harbour opening onto the Thirty Thousand Islands, the largest freshwater archipelago in the world. The Island Queen cruise tours the islands every summer, the Fire Tower lookout gives a view over town and bay, and the Festival of the Sound fills the Charles W. Stockey Centre with classical music each July.
A cottage for rent near Parry Sound can be on the open bay, with pink granite and wind-swept pines, or on a quieter inland lake like Oastler or Mill Lake. Killbear Provincial Park, with some of the best beaches on the bay, is about 30 minutes away. Parry Sound is about 2½ hours north of Toronto on Highway 400.
