Mazinaw Lake is the centrepiece of Bon Echo Provincial Park, where Mazinaw Rock rises about 100 metres straight out of the water. The cliff holds more than 260 Indigenous pictographs, best seen from a canoe or the park’s small tour boat, and a trail climbs to the top for a view over the lake, one of the deepest in Ontario.
A cottage for rent near Mazinaw Lake or neighbouring Skootamatta and Kashwakamak lakes is a base for paddling, rock climbing, swimming at the park’s sandy beaches and stargazing far from city lights. The villages of Cloyne and Northbrook have the basics. Mazinaw Lake is about 3¼ hours from Toronto and 2 hours from Ottawa.
