Tobermory is the little harbour village at the very tip of the Bruce Peninsula, where Georgian Bay’s water turns a startling turquoise over white limestone. Bruce Peninsula National Park protects the famous Grotto and Indian Head Cove, Fathom Five National Marine Park has glass-bottom boat tours over shipwrecks, and Flowerpot Island’s sea stacks are a short boat ride away.
A cottage for rent near Tobermory lets you visit the Grotto early in the morning before the crowds (parking reservations are required in summer), take the Chi-Cheemaun ferry to Manitoulin Island, and watch some of Ontario’s darkest night skies. Tobermory is about 4 hours from Toronto.
