Southampton and Port Elgin, together called Saugeen Shores, are two friendly beach towns on Lake Huron. Southampton has a long sandy beach facing Chantry Island and its lighthouse, which you can visit by boat tour in summer, plus a heritage main street; Port Elgin has a big beach, a marina and a boardwalk.
A cottage for rent in Saugeen Shores is ideal for families who want sand, warm shallow water and spectacular sunsets, with the Saugeen River for canoeing and tubing and the Saugeen Rail Trail for cycling. Sauble Beach is about 30 minutes north. Southampton is about 3 hours from Toronto.
