Whitney is a small village on Galeairy Lake right beside Algonquin Park’s East Gate. It is the quieter side of the park: the Algonquin Logging Museum is just inside the gate, Lake Opeongo — the park’s largest lake — is a short drive west, and moose are often seen along Highway 60 in spring and early summer.
A cottage for rent near Whitney gives you a peaceful base for canoe day trips, fishing for lake trout and stargazing under very dark skies, with the Algonquin Visitor Centre about 40 minutes away. Barry’s Bay and the Ottawa Valley are to the east. Whitney is about 3½ hours from Toronto and about 3 hours from Ottawa.
