Magnetawan is a small village on the Magnetawan River, where a hand-operated lock still lifts boats between Lake Cecebe and Ahmic Lake. The river once carried steamboats through the Almaguin Highlands, and today it links a chain of lakes that you can explore by boat for a full day, stopping at the village for lunch and ice cream.
A cottage for rent on Ahmic Lake or Lake Cecebe offers warm water, good bass and pickerel fishing and quiet evenings far from the busier lakes further south. Burk’s Falls, with groceries and services, is about 20 minutes away. Magnetawan is about 3 hours north of Toronto.
