Wasagaming is the townsite of Riding Mountain National Park, on the south shore of Clear Lake: a sandy main beach, a pier, shops and restaurants, and the park’s visitor centre on Wasagaming Drive. From here, trails and lakeshore walks lead into the forest, Lake Audy’s bison range is a scenic drive west, and the park becomes a quiet place for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing in winter. Riding Mountain is also the core of a UNESCO biosphere reserve.
Cabins inside the park are close to the beach, while many cottages and cabins for rent sit just outside it, around Onanole by the south gate and near Erickson, a short drive further south — often in the woods, with more space and quiet. Wasagaming is about 3 hours from Winnipeg and about 1 hour from Brandon. A Parks Canada pass is required to stop in the park; hours and passes are on the park’s official website (parks.canada.ca/riding).
