Lake Nipissing is one of the largest lakes in Ontario, broad and shallow, with sandy bays, islands and long summer evenings. It is famous for walleye fishing and for its winter ice-fishing season, and its west end drains into the French River, a historic canoe route of the fur traders. The bilingual town of Sturgeon Falls and the village of Callander sit on its shores.
A cottage for rent on Lake Nipissing is perfect for anglers and for families who like warm, shallow swimming. Boating can be rough on windy days, so many cottages sit in sheltered bays. North Bay is close for supplies. The lake is about 3½ hours north of Toronto.
