Charleston Lake is a deep, clear lake of islands, granite shores and pine forest in the Frontenac Arch, a UNESCO biosphere reserve between the Thousand Islands and the Rideau. Charleston Lake Provincial Park has beaches, hiking trails past old rock shelters and canoe-in campsites, and the lake is one of the few in eastern Ontario with lake trout.
A cottage for rent on Charleston Lake offers clean water for swimming, quiet paddling and good fishing, with the village of Lyndhurst — home to Ontario’s oldest surviving bridge — just north. Gananoque and Brockville are each about 30 minutes away. Charleston Lake is about 1½ hours from Ottawa and 3 hours from Toronto.
